I have been buying Amazon electronic products the past few years and they have been a go to for gift purchases. The products continue to evolve, and Amazon offers great deals through out the year as well.
For kids and adults the Kindle Fire is a must have. I was hesitant to switch at first from my iPad, but this tablet is easy to use and meets all my requirements (aka online shopping and watching movies). The kids versions have protective cases and parental controls, that make it easy to link to the adult accounts. There is a 2 year worry free guarantee as well so if your kid breaks it, Amazon will replace. If movie's are your thing, you can add an SD card to create more storage, which is a huge plus for long trips in the car or on a plane!

If you are looking for a great tablet to read on, the paperwhite or voyage is the tablet version for you. We originally had a nook but quickly replaced that with a kindle for reading. Amazon prime members receive a free e-book every month, and those stack up and are perfect for me to dive into once a work trip or vacation hits. You're eyes won't tire in the dark, you can adjust the text size, you'll even know how long it will take you to finish reading a chapter.
Now to my favorite home items! The echo and the firestick. The Echo, or the smaller version, Echo Dot, have Alexa, which is the equivalent to Siri in an iPhone. You can use these electronics to ask questions, make phone calls (Alexa, call mom), order items from Amazon, set timers, use as intercoms if you have multiple ones, set alert notifications, but the more Amazon devices you have, the more the opportunity for use expands. That brings me to the firestick. This little device turns your TV into a smart tv (you need a usb port on your tv for this). You can download apps, like netflicks, HBO, SlingTV, Prime Video, and access them by asking Echo to open them to control the tv. We were able to cut cable thanks to this device and now exclusively stream tv shows.
So as I stated, the more you incorporate home electronics into your house, the more you can utilize Alexa via Echo or Echo dot. The basic place to start is with smart plugs. You can link Alexa to these devices, and with the statement to "turn on the living room lights" you have all the lights on. (PS - extra features like this for Alexa need to be set up in the Alexa app on your phone) But why stop there? Alexa works with Nest (thermostat) and even home security systems! Echo connect (release date December 18, 2017) is also coming soon and with this, you can connect your home phone to your compatible Echo device to call any phone number, using just your voice. You can call 911 from across the room.
